    Yes. Korede Bello is a big artist and his Spotify numbers reflect that. The singer is regarded as one of Don Jazzy’s best investment in the music industry, and the data backs that up.

    The singer’s hit song, ‘Do like that’ single, has crossed the 10 million make in streams. At the time of this report, he song has racked up an impressive 11.1 million streams, and it is still growing.



    The song was released in September 2016. It was produced by Altims, and marked the buildup to the singer’s “Belloved” album release. The video which was released in November 2016, has amassed over 20.3 million views on Youtube.

    Although Spotify is not available in Nigeria, it is one of the world’s biggest streaming services. It possesses over 100 million subscribers, and the company recently announced that it has surpassed 50 million paying subscribers.



    There’s a lesson to learn here for fans of the music and the artists:

    The music industry in Nigeria is founded upon hype and Instagram flossing. With artists scrambling to create an air ofsuperiority and success, rather than relying on the defining data and growing their numbers. We don’t have enough data to judge the success of the musicians in Nigeri, and they get away with lies.

    But Spotify still remains one of the best ways to judge the success of an artiste single, as it provides real time data that shows everyone how much people interact with the music. Korede Bello has over 11 million streams for a song that is not rated at number 1 within the country.

    It dwarfs Tekno’s ‘Pana’ which has over 5.6 million streams, while Runtown’s ‘Mad Over You’ is chilling at comparatively low 2 million streams, and Wizkid’s ‘Daddy Yo’ has 3 million streams on the platform.

    This shows that when it comes down to the business of selling records, image management and PR can only juice up the profile for so long. Real progress exists in the numbers, and only by following the data can you truly judge the influence, power and worth of an artist and his art.
